New Delhi, May 23: With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance registering a historic victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi is set to return as prime minister for the second consecutive term. Narendra Modi is only the fourth politician in India's electoral history to join Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi in a list of prime ministers who won a massive mandate in Lok Sabha elections.

Heavily banking on PM Narendra Modi's charisma, BJP is set to secure a full majority winning more than Lok Sabha seats with the NDA touching 342 seats, according to projections. In 2014, the BJP won 282 seats and the NDA 336 seats. When the first Lok Sabha polls were held in 1952, Jawaharlal Nehru led Congress alone won 364 seats. Nehru increased Congress's tally to 371 in the 1956 Lok Sabha elections. Only two other parties won double-digit seats. PM Narendra Modi Tweets 'India Wins Yet Again' As BJP Heads Towards Historic Victory in Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
