New Delhi, May 2: The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 'nuclear button for Diwali' remark at Barmer in Rajasthan on April 21. The poll panel said that no such violation of the extant advisories/provisions is attracted. It is the third time that PM Modi has been given a clean chit by the EC.

Earlier, the poll panel had said that PM Modi's Wardha and Latur speeches are not a violation of the model code of conduct (MCC). On April 30, while giving a green signal to the PM in connection with allegations of violation of the MCC during his speech in Wardha, the poll panel had said, “In matter related to a complaint concerning alleged violation of Model Code of Conduct in a speech by PM Narendra Modi in Wardha, Maharashtra on 01.04.2019, Commission is of the considered view that in this matter no such violation has been noticed.”

Similarly, PM Modi was given a clean chit for his speech in Latur last month in which he had urged first-time voters to dedicate their vote in the name of the Balakot air strike heroes and the soldiers killed in the Pulwama attack. The poll panel had said that it was not violative of its instructions on invoking armed forces in poll campaigns.

Meanwhile, earlier today, the EC gave a clean chit to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, saying that no violation of the MCC had been done by him during his speech in Madhya Pradesh. In his speech in April, Rahul Gandhi had called Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah a "murder accused" and his son Jay Shah a "magician".
