New Delhi, May 31: A day after the grand swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated portfolios to the newly sworn Union ministers on Friday. Among the various names of surprises is of Prakash Javadekar, who has been given the charge of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, I&B in the new Cabinet of Modi 2.0.

Though Javadekar's policies to revive the education sector was debated in his tenure as Human Resource Development Minister, the opposition too had agreed his mettle in dealing with issues. Even the other Union Ministers in the previous Modi government had applauded Javadekar's work in HRD Ministry. Considering the track record of Javadekar, the new port portfolio of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Information and Broadcasting is certainly a new surprise. However, Javadekar had worked in both these sectors in the previous government as Union Minister of State.

Now looking at the most specific sector - Human Resource Development Ministry - being allocated to the former chief minister of Uttarakhand Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, things might take new turns in the education sector. It is to be known that PM Modi had assured the country to revive the education sector soon after the results of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 were out.

Apart from PM Narendra Modi, a total of 57 Ministers were sworn-in. Among them, 25 were accorded Cabinet rank, 11 given independent charge and 24 assigned as Minister of State (MoS). However, Suresh Prabhu, Jayant Sinha, Vijay Goel, Rajyavardhan Rathore and Anantkumar Hegde - all Ministers in the erstwhile Modi regime - have been excluded.
