Narendra Modi’s address at World Economic Forum gives India a big push on the global stage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday delivered a spirited speech at World Economic Forum (WEF) 2018, highlighting the prowess of India on a global platform. The Prime Minister’s speech this year was much talked about, as the last time an Indian Prime Minister visited the Global Economic Forum was way back in 1997.

During his hour-long speech at the 48th edition of economic forum, PM Modi stressed on several major challenges that the world faces in recent times emphasising mainly on Climate Change, Renewable energy, and Terrorism.

Delivering his first speech at the WEF, Narendra Modi addressed the Plenary Session with vigour for more than 30 minutes amid huge applaud. During his 30-minute address, PM Modi stressed upon the need of clean-energy generation, good and bad terrorism, and increasing threats in the context of extreme climatic changes.

In his address, he said, “Last time an Indian PM came to Davos was in 1997 when Deve Gowda ji had come. That time our GDP was little more than 400 billion dollars, now it is more than six times.” Further, he added, “This year the topic here is 'Creating a shared future in a fractured world'. New powers are changing the balance between Economic & Political strength. This is indicating a change in future of the world. The world is facing challenges in maintaining peace, stability & security.”

Narendra Modi’s address at World Economic Forum gives India a big push on the global stage. With it, India looks to stamp its authority as a superpower on the global forum. Modi touched upon many other important aspects such as ease of doing business, peace, security etc.

Earlier in the day, Modi met President of Switzerland Alain Berset and Professor Klaus Schwab (Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum) in Davos amidst huge fanfare.
