Surat, January 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, while addressing the New India Youth Conclave in Surat. He charged the erstwhile government headed Manmohan Singh of leaving the country prone to terrorist strikes. The situation, he claimed, has been radically changed over the last four years.
Drawing comparisons between the performance of NDA with the UPA, Modi said the former coalition government headed by the Congress exhibited inaction when the country's security was challenged. On the contrary, the Prime Minister claimed, he has left no stone unturned to create a safe environment in the nation. "Every one remembers what happened on 26/11," he said referring to the terror attack by Pakistan-based militants in Mumbai. "They came on a boat, entered our nation and left so many of our innocent civilians dead. But what did to the then government do, they continued to sleep."
"When we were in power, our soldiers were killed in Uri. What did we do? We lost our sleep. Within few days, every blood of our jawans was avenged. Our answer was: surgical strikes," the Prime Minister added.
Apart from national security, Modi claimed that his government has also brought the nation out of "policy paralysis" on the economic front. Citing his shock decision of demonetisation, the Prime Minister said it dealt a lethal blow on the menace of shell companies and benami properties.
"Demonetisation was implemented. 3 lakh companies were locked down. And there was not a word against me," he said, adding that the common man had supported the note ban decision, whereas, only those whose hid unaccounted wealth were troubled.
