New Delhi, April 1: Days after Bharatiya Janata Party launched the ‘NAMO TV’ – after the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Aam Aadmi Party reached to Election Commission with a letter questioning the poll conducting body whether permission was given to the party when the model code of conduct is in place for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

Stating that that launch of the ‘NAMO TV’ as a violation of model code of ethics, the AAP wrote to the EC, “Can permission be granted to a party to have their own TV channel even after model code of conduct is enforced? If no permission was sought by ECI then what action has been taken?” NAMO TV Channel Live on Dish TV and Videocon DTH Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2019. 

Though several parties have raised questions on the timing of the launch of the party, nobody has written to the Election Commission till now.

Earlier on March 27, BJP has launched the NAMO TV on various DTH platforms and made an announcement of the same through their social media handle. The NaMo TV is available on Videocon and dish TV at 302 and 770 channel numbers respectively. The channel is free to air, and people are not required to pay any monthly rental to watch The NaMo TV. The channel is already available online making people aware of the government policies and welfare schemes.

Making the launch formal, PM Narendra Modi too wrote about it. He had written, “The day we were most looking forward to is here! At 5 PM, lakhs of Chowkidars from different parts of India will interact in the historic #MainBhiChowkidar programme. This is an interaction you must not miss. Watch it live on the NaMoApp or NaMo TV."

Notably, the Model Code of Conducts bars public service broadcasters to telecast all events being attended or addressed by PM Modi or by any political leader.
