Results for the Nagapattinam Lok Sabha Constituency in Tamil Nadu has been declared by the Election Commission of India (ECI). M Selvaraj of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has won the seat. The counting of votes for the Nagapattinam Lok Sabha Constituency began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. This is one of the 39 Parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu which went to poll on April 18. The constituency number of Nagapattinam is 29 and is reserved for scheduled castes. The Dalit agricultural workers form a large part of the electorate in the constituency. This constituency is noted for being an historically communist stronghold, having elected Communist Party of India parliamentary representative six times. For the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party has given its ticket to M Saravanan from the Nagapattinam reserved constituency. This constituency, with strong presence of fishing communities, is traditionally dominated by AIADMK. The Tiruvarur assembly constituency, on the other hand, is the home area of DMK supremo M.
