The Election Commission officials said that the counting will happen in the entire three poll- bound north eastern states- Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland on March 3, elections for which were held in February. Tripura went to the polls on 18 February while elections were held in Nagaland and Meghalaya on 27 February.
In Nagaland, the BJP has joined hands with the NDPP that was floated by former chief minister Neiphiu Rio. Nagaland is currently under the leadership of Chief Minister TR Zeliang who belongs to Naga People's Front. The Naga People's Front (NFP) has been in power in Nagaland since 2003. In this election, the BJP is making a bid to expand its footprints in the region.
In Nagaland, the total eligible voters in the state are reported to be 11,89,264. As per reports, the total polling stations in the states were 3,214. According to the JanKiBaat-NewsX exit poll, the BJP-NDPP alliance is likely to storm the ruling NPF bastion as it is predicted to win 27-32 seats with a vote share of 48 per cent, against NPF's 20-25 seats and a vote share of 42 per cent in Nagaland. The exit poll states that Congress in Nagaland is likely to get 0-2 seats with a vote share of 4.4 per cent and others are likely to get 5-7 seats with a vote share of 5-6 per cent.
