Nagaland People's Front (NPF) candidate C Apok Jamir won the Nagaland Lok Sabha seat. The bypoll was necessitated after Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio resigned as a Lok Sabha member and has now become the chief minister.The PDA, which has the NDPP and the BJP had fielded former minister Tokheho Yepthomi from the seat. Tokheho Yepthomi of the ruling PDA is leading over his NPF nominee by a margin to over 41,000 votes. NDPP has so far bagged 2,15,835 votes, while C Apok Jamir of the opposition NPF has secured 1,73,863 and RPT with 1,73,863 votes. NDPP and the BJP are PDA's major partners.
As per recent trends, Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate C Apok Jamir is leading by over 11,000 votes, closely followed by Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).

The first trends have started pouring-in for Nagaland. According to the trends, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) is leading with a total of 23,364 votes. The Naga People's Front (NPF) is following with a total of 20,849 votes. The NOTA option also got 63 votes.
Counting of votes began at 8:00 am for Nagaland Lok Sabha seat. The result is expected to come out shortly.
Polling for Nagaland Lok Sabha seat was held on May 28. Voting for four Lok Sabha seats was conducted in 10 assembly constituencies across ten states. The counting of votes for both Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections will take place on May 31. Bypoll in Nagaland was necessitated after Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Neiphiu Rio quit the seat days before the assembly elections in February, following which he became the Chief Minister. For the by-polls, the ruling People's Democratic Alliance or PDA, which has the NDPP (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party) and the BJP as its major constituents, has fielded former minister Tokheho Yepthomi from the seat. Yepthomi is contesting against Opposition Naga People's Front (NPF) nominee C Apok Jamir. The Congress has also extended its support to Jamir.
Senior Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader Tokheho Yepthomi and former MLA of the Naga People's Front, C Apok Jamir are also contesting the elections. For voting, 2196 polling stations were set up across the state. Tight security including the Nagaland Armed Police, Home Guards and village guards were deployed to ensure safe, free and fair elections.
