Kohima, March 1: Nagaland's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Thursday declared re-polling in 13 polling stations spread across nine Assembly constituencies on Friday. As per details by CEO Abhijit Sinha, the re-polling will be held from 7 am to 3 pm. The nine constituencies where re-polling would be held on Friday are Tamlu, Peren, Kohima Town, Chizami, Phek, Meluri, Tizit, Pungro-Kiphire and Llongkhim-Chare.

The CEO further informed that people could not cast their votes in one booth in Tamlu constituency on February 27 due to the alleged intervention of the Assam Police with claims that the booth falls under Disturbed Area Belt between Assam and Nagaland. Sinha said that the Election Commission has directed that fresh poll be conducted there at some alternative temporary structure.

As per reports by PTI, the Election Commission had called for a repolling in the 13 polling stations following reports of snatching of EVMs, misuse of electoral photo identity cards and miscreants not allowing voters to exercise their franchise. The counting of votes for all Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya Assembly Elections will be held on March 3.

On February 27, polling for 59 of the 60 Assembly seats was held in Nagaland. It must be noted that Former chief minister and NDDP president Neiphiu Rio has been declared elected uncontested from Northern Angami II seat.  On the polling day, 75% polling was recorded in the Nagaland Assembly elections, the Election Commission said. Voting was delayed in at least 100 polling stations due to the malfunctioning of the electronic voting machines (EVMs). A total of 11,76,432 voters—5,97,281 men, 5,79,151 women and 5,884 service voters—are eligible to exercise their franchise in the Nagaland Assembly elections 2018.
