Patna, November 15: JDU leader and former state minister Manju Verma, who had to resign from her post following reports of her alleged links with Brajesh Thakur, the main accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case, has been suspended from the party, said media reports. Manju Verma, who was the social welfare minister when the Muzaffarpur Shelter Home Case came to light, had resigned as a minister following the outrage over her alleged link to Brajesh Thakur. Earlier, the Bihar government on October 31 informed the Supreme Court that the former social welfare minister Manju Verma could not be traced by the state police. The top court had rapped the Bihar government's counsel for failing to take Manju into custody, despite her anticipatory bail plea being rejected by the Patna High Court on October 9. The shelter home rape case is currently being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The rescued victims are currently in government's custody. Brajesh Thakur, a local newspaper owner and strongman ran the shelter home where 34 girls out of the 44 inmates, most of them minor, were allegedly sexually assaulted and raped. The case caused major embarrassment for the ruling JD(U)-BJP government and chief minister Nitish Kumar.
