Mumbai, March 23: Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra saw a tight electoral contest between the Shiv Sena and the Congress. Polling for Lok Sabha election in Mumbai South parliamentary constituency will be held on April 29 in the fourth phase of general elections. Shiv Sena candidate Arvind Sawant won from Mumbai South Lok Sabha seat.

Shiv Sena's incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) from Mumbai South Arvind Sawant was renominated by the party. He will contest against Congress candidate Milind Deora, the son of former union minister Murli Deora. Milind Deora lost against Sawant in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. The process of filing nomination for Mumbai South Lok Sabha election began from April 2. The last day for nominations was April 9. Check Full Schedule of Lok Sabha Elections 2019.

The scrutiny was done on April 10 and the last date for the withdrawal of the nominations was April 12. The BJP and Shiv Sena are contesting 25 and 23 seats respectively in Maharashtra as per the seat-sharing agreement between the two parties. The Congress also has a tie-up with the NCP and other regional outfits.

The BJP-Shiv Sena combine together bagged 41 of the 48 seats in Maharashtra in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, leaving Congress with two and the NCP four seats. Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases - on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19.
