Lucknow, March 24: Samajwadi Party founder and former three-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav, has featured in the list of party's star campaigners for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019. Mulayam's inclusion is significant as the veteran politician was not named in the list released by the party for phase-I.

Mulayam, who has not been on the same page with his son and SP president Akhilesh Yadav since late 2016, had sparked a row day before the announcement of general elections. In his final speech before the adjournment of the 16th Lok Sabha, the 79-year-old said he wishes to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi get re-elected. Akhilesh Yadav to Contest From Azamgarh, Azam Khan From Rampur Seat as SP Candidates.

Mulayam further ruffled feathers in the SP camp by attending the first major rally called by his younger brother and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) founder Shivpal Singh Yadav. The latter had quit the SP in 2018, after he months of being sidelined by Akhilesh Yadav.

Apart from Mulayam, other prominent SP leaders named in the campaigners' list include party chief Akhilesh Yadav, national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav, Rampur MLA Azam Khan, his son Abdullah Khan and the party's minority wing chief Yaseen Ali Usmani.

The second phase of Lok Sabha elections is scheduled on April 18. In Uttar Pradesh, polls will be held on nine seats: Nagina, Amroha, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, Mathura, Agra and Fatehpur Sikri.
