Bhopal, April 7: A major scuffle broke out between CRPF personnel and Madhya Pradesh police while raids were on at the residences of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s private secretary, Praveen Kakkar. The Income Tax (I-T) officials carried out raids at the residences of Praveen Kakkar, in Indore and former advisor R K Miglani in Delhi, on charges of alleged tax evasion. Officials conducted searches at 50 locations including Indore, Bhopal, Goa and Delhi, according to sources.
Pradeep Kumar, a CRPF official, said that Madhya Pradesh police created obstacles in the working of CRPF and that they hurled abuses. "We're only following orders of our seniors. Seniors have asked us to not let anybody in. Proceedings are on, that’s why we're not letting anybody in; only performing our duty(sic)," said Pradeep Kumar to ANI.
Whereas, Bhupinder Singh, City SP Bhopal said in his response that, "We've nothing to do with Income Tax and the ongoing raid. It's a residential complex, there are people inside who need medical assistance, they are calling the local SHO for help. They have closed the entire complex because of raid."

The Congress alleged that the Income Tax raids were carried out at the behest of the Central government. Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said that investigative agencies are being misused. "All this is happening during election time. Has any agency gone to BJP to investigate how crores of money are being spent?" said Sharma. Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath said that the government in power is using democratic institutions to intimidate political opponents before the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
Former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the CRPF MP Police standoff said that, "I-T dept is doing its work, it's their constitutional right. CRPF soldiers were on duty, they were being stopped; MP Police clashed with CRPF. What Mamata ji did in Bengal, the same game is being played in MP. It's an attempt to save corrupts."
