The Congress Committee has written to the Election Commission alleging the violation of Model Code of Conduct by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Bhopal, November 18: The Congress Committee has written to the Election Commission alleging the violation of Model Code of Conduct by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The letter states that PM in his public rally on Sunday in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara lied when he said, ‘Kamal Nath says in a video that Congress will give tickets to goons, all it needs is a candidate who can win”. A controversy was sparked in the poll-bound state when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shared a video of Kamal Nath speaking with a gathering of Muslim clerics, telling them to bear with the RSS' tactics till the election-day, following which the Congress will "deal with them."
The BJP cornered the Congress over the video, alleging that the latter's pro-Hindu stance is a facade and that the Congress "divide and rule" via appeasement politics. However, the senior Congress leader refuted the allegations. He said that in the video, he clearly warned the Muslims to "not get confused" and that after the elections, the Congress "will defend everyone". PM Modi said, “Is it the same Congress which praises the cow in Madhya Pradesh and mentions some schemes in its poll manifesto, but slaughters calves on the streets of Kerala and eats beef?" PM Modi asked the crowd.” During the rally, the Prime minister also claimed that the BJP-led government in the Centre had stopped the "theft" of the country's money to the tune of Rs. 90,000 crore per year by detecting fake beneficiaries through technology.
Madhya Pradesh is going for polls on November 28 along with Mizoram. The result will be declared on December 11. According to an opinion poll conducted by ABP News and Lokniti CSDS, the BJP is predicted to win the upcoming assembly elections. The Congress, meanwhile, is projected to serve in the Opposition for a fourth term in a row.
