MP Assembly Election Results 2018: Congress to Meet Governor Anandiben Patel at 12 Noon, BSP Supremo Mayawati Announces Support

BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday extended her party's support to the Congress party and said even though BSP doesn't agree with many of Congress's policies, the party has agreed to support Congress in Madhya Pradesh and if need be in Rajasthan.

Bhopal, December 12: The Congress delegation is scheduled to meet Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel at 12 noon on Wednesday to stake claim to form a government in Madhya Pradesh. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday extended her party's support to the Congress party and said even though BSP doesn't agree with many of Congress's policies, the party has agreed to support Congress in Madhya Pradesh and if need be in Rajasthan. According to the results announced by Election Commission, Congress has won 114 seats while the BJP has won 109 in Madhya Pradesh. Congress Decimates BJP in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Emerges as Single Largest Party in Madhya Pradesh; TRS Gets Telangana, MNF Defeats Congress in Mizoram. 

The BSP Chief said the results show that people in states like Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were totally against the BJP and its anti-people policies and as a result chose Congress due to lack of other major alternatives. "To keep BJP out of power we have agreed to support Congress in Madhya Pradesh and if need be in Rajasthan, even though we don't agree with many of their policies", Mayawati added. Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2018 Winners List.

Earlier, Mayawati had ruled out any alliance with the Congress. In Madhya Pradesh, it has been a close battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. Voting in Madhya Pradesh was held on November 28 and a total voter turnout of 75% of the 5.03 crore voters was reported. At least 2,716 candidates are contesting for the 200 seats. In 2013, the BJP had won 165 seats and the Congress bagged 58 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had won four seats while three seats were bagged by Independents.
