New Delhi, July 18: The discussion on the no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition against the Narendra Modi government is set to take place on Friday, July 20, in Lok Sabha. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) along with support from the Congress-led Opposition moved the no-confidence motion against the NDA government in Parliament on Day 1 of Monsoon Session 2018 today. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has admitted the motion.

While the NDA government is confident of the numbers and has said that it was ready for the discussion, the Congress, too, has said that it was not worried. "We are confident of the numbers, we are not worried," said UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. (Explained: What is a No-Confidence Motion?)

According to reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to list its achievements in the past four years on the floor of the House during the no-confidence debate. The BJP has issued a three-line whip to its MPs over the motion and has also asked its allies in the NDA to issue whip to their MPs.

Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge had on Tuesday said that all opposition parties have come to a consensus to move the Vote of No-Confidence Motion in the monsoon session. "Articles and editorials written state that opposition doesn't allow to run Parliament. PM too reiterates the same. But the truth is, whenever we bring up important issues, govt tries to avoid it by disrupting the session," Kharge said.

The Telugu Desam Party had also proposed the no-confidence motion against the Modi government. "The Modi government had promised special status and packages for Andhra Pradesh, but it has not fulfilled these promises till date," TDP MP Mohan Rao had said.
