The first phase election is scheduled for April 11, second phase will be held on April 18 while polling for the third and fourth phases will be held on April 23 and April 29 respectively. The counting of votes will be on May 23.
Bhubasneswar, May 23: The counting of votes for all the 147 assembly constituencies and 21 Lok Sabha constituencies in Odisha began at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. Polling in Mohana, Paralakhemundi, Gunupur, Bissam Cuttack, Rayagada Assembly constituencies was held in the first phase on April 11. Polling was held in four phases between April 11 to April 29 in the state. The first phase was held on April 11, second on April 18, third on April 23 and fourth on April 29. The state voted simultaneously for Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies. There are 21 Lok Sabha and 147 Assembly seats in Odisha.
The Mohana, Paralakhemundi, Gunupur, Bissam Cuttack, Rayagada Assembly constituencies in Odisha will go to poll in the first phase on April 11. In the upcoming polls in the state, a tough fight between the incumbent Biju Janata Dal (BJD) headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and Indian National Congress Party will be witnessed. Mohana: The Mohana Vidhan Sabha constituency of Gajapati district includes Mohana block, Udayagiri block, Nuagada block and Rayagada block.For the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP has given its ticket to Prasanta Kumar Mallik from this constituency while the Congress has given its ticket to Dasarathi Gomango.
The ruling BJD has given its ticket to Purnabasi Nayak while the BSP had fielded Sudam Raita from this seat. In 2014 election, Biju Janata Dal candidate Basanti Mallick defeated Congress candidate Dasarathi Gamango by 115 votes.
Paralakhemundi: Paralakhemundi Vidhan Sabha constituency of Gajapati district includes Paralakhemundi, Kashinagara, Paralakhemundi block, Gumma block and Kashinagara block. For 2019 Assembly polls, the BJP has given its ticket to K. Narayana Rao while K. Surya Rao of the Congress will contest the election from this seat.
The BJD has given its ticket to Kalyani Gajapathi while BSP candidate Gouri Sankar Mahanandia will contest from the Paralakhemundi seat. In the elections held in 2014, Congress candidate Kengam Surya Rao defeated Biju Janata Dal candidate K. Narayana Rao by 1419 votes.
Gunupur: Gunupur Vidhan Sabha constituency of Rayagada district includes Gunupur, Gudari, Gunupur block, Ramanaguda block, Padmapur block, Chandrapur block and Gudari block.For the 2019 assembly polls, the BJP has fielded Shishir Gamang from this constituency while the Congress has given its ticket to Purusottam Gomango.
The BJD has given its ticket to Raghunath Gomango while BSP candidate Kailash Sabar will contest from this constituency. In the last elections held in 2014, Biju Janata Dal candidate Trinath Gomango defeated Indian National Congress candidate Purusattam Gomango by 8,286 votes.
Bissam Cuttack: This Vidhan Sabha constituency of Rayagada district includes Bissam Cuttack block, Kalyansinghpur block, Kolnara block and Muniguda block. In the run up for the upcoming assembly polls in the state, BJP has fielded Siba Sankar Ulaka from this constituency while the Congress has given its ticket to Nilamadhaba Hikaka.
The ruling BJD has given the ticket to Jagannath Saraka from the Bissam Cuttack constituency while the BSP has given its ticket to Jetendra Jakaka. In the 2014 election, Biju Janata Dal candidate Jagannath Saraka defeated Indian National Congress candidate Dambarudhar Ulaka by 29,186 votes.
Rayagada: The Rayagada Vidhan Sabha constituency of Rayagada district includes Rayagada, Rayagada block and Kashipur block.For the 2019 polls, the BJP has given its ticket to Basanta Kumar Ullaka while the Congress has fielded its candidate Kadraka Appalaswamy from this seat.
The ruling BJD has fielded Lal Bihari Himirika from the Rayagada constituency while BSP candidate Purnabati Majhi will contest polls from this seat. In 2014 elections, Biju Janata Dal Lalbihari Himirika defeated Congress candidate Makaranda Muduli by a margin of 8,286 votes.
In March, the EC had announced that voting across the country will be held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Polling in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections 2019. During the upcoming elections, a total of 91 constituencies will go for polls in first phase, 97 in second phase, 115 in third phase, 71 in fourth, 51 in fifth, and 59 each in sixth and seventh phase from April 11 to May 19. In the last elections held in the year 2014, CM Naveen Patnaik's Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had won 117 seats, while the Congress was the second largest party with 16 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had managed to win only 10 of the 147 seats in Odisha.
