Hyderabad, January 2: Telangana Congress president and former Indian cricket team captain Mohammed Azharuddin on Wednesday denied reports that he was joining the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). A report from a leading daily claimed that Mohammed Azharuddin would contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election on TRS ticket from Secunderabad. However, the former Congress MP ruled out the possibility.

"The news doing the rounds in the media of me joining the TRS party in Telangana is incorrect & false (sic)," Azharuddin clarified in a tweet. The newspaper report claimed that a non-resident Indian was negotiating with the TRS leadership about Azaharuddin joining the party. TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has responded positively to this development, the report further claimed. Why Azhar? Gambhir Blasts CAB Invitation to Former Captain.

Azharuddin was appointed as working president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) just before the recent assembly elections in the state. He was said to be unhappy the way the party was treating him. He recently attended the wedding ceremony of All India Majlis-e-Ittihadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi's daughter. Also present were KCR, TRS working president KT Rama Rao, and his daughter MP K Kavitha.

Azharuddin, who joined the Congress in 2009, was elected to the Lok Sabha in the same year from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh but lost the 2014 polls from Rajasthan's Tonk-Sawai Madhopur constituency.
