A new government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was sworn-in on Saturday in the presence of Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. The sworn-in function took place at Raj Bhavan where few BJP and NCP leaders were also present.
In a press conference, BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the mandate in Maharashtra was in favour of Fadnavis as Chief Minister. "Throughout the election campaign, Devendra Fadnavis' name was projected as the Maharashtra Chief Minister. The support base of BJP & the prospect of Devendra Fadnavis becoming CM played a crucial role in the success of Shiv Sena candidates," he said.
Meanwhile, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar has distanced himself from this development. He said that he was unaward of Ajit Pawar's move and assured that action would be taken. "Ajit Pawar’s decision is against the party line and is indiscipline. No NCP leader or worker is in favour of an NCP-BJP government," he said.
