‘Modi go Back’ Slogans on Black Balloons by DMK Leaders Floated in Tamil Nadu Amid Cauvery Protest
Earlier this week, DMK working president M K Stalin had appealed to people of the state to hoist black flags atop their houses on April 12 when the Prime Minister visits Tamil Nadu to inaugurate the Defence Expo 2018.
Chennai, April 12: Protests in Tamil Nadu turned violent on Thursday as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leaders floated a black balloon in Chennai with the slogan 'Modi Go Back'. The leaders are holding a protest against Narendra Modi's visit to the state today. As a mark of protest, the protesters held black flags and gathered near the airport in Alandur area.
Tamil Nadu has been witnessing protests since over a week over the formation of Cauvery Management Board. The security across the state has been beefed up in wake of the Prime Minister's visit.
Earlier this week, DMK working president M K Stalin had appealed to people of the state to hoist black flags atop their houses on April 12 when the Prime Minister visits Tamil Nadu to inaugurate the Defence Expo 2018 that has been on edge due to protests over Cauvery water issue. Political leaders, actors, farmers have objected to the Centre’s delay in setting up a Cauvery Water Management Board.
Reports inform that Stalin made this appeal while addressing a meet on the Cauvery issue at Kottur and had asked how could PM Modi visit Tamil Nadu after "betraying the State on the Cauvery issue."
It must be noted that the Defence Expo is held at Thiruvidanthai, about 40 km from Chennai. Stalin had said that the day of PM Modi's visit is a day of 'grief' (dukkha naal) for the state in view of the Centre's 'betrayal.' The DMK leader had also asked people to wear black clothes and badges as a mark of opposition and protest.
