Aizawl, October 9: The stage is set for the Mizoram Assembly Elections, which will take place next month on Tuesday, November 7. The development comes after the Election Commission, on Monday, October 9, announced the schedule for assembly polls in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Telangana. Besides Mizoram, four other states will also go to polls in the month of November 2023, with the counting of votes and election results of all five states to be declared on December 3.

While announcing the poll schedule for the five states, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that 1.77 lakh polling stations will be set up in 679 assembly constituencies of the 5 states. He also said that nearly 60 lakh first-time voters between the ages of 18 and 19 will be taking part in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha polls of the five states. The 2018 assembly election in Mizoram was held on November 28, with the result being declared on December 11. In 2018, the Mizo National Front won 26 out of 40 assembly seats in Mizoram, with Congress bagging 5 seats.

The Zoram People's Movement won 8 seats, while the BJP managed to win only 1 seat. Zoramthanga, the current president of the Mizo National Front, is the Chief Minister of the state.
