Shillong, November 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday attacked the Congress party for ignoring the interest of the people of Mizoram and accused it of disrespecting the culture of North-East. The Premier said that Transformation through Transportation is BJP’s mantra for the development of North Eastern states.
Addressing an electoral campaign in Lunglei in Mizoram, PM Modi said, “A Congress leader called attire of the North-east as outlandish. Your hopes, ambitions do not matter to the Congress. It is to be known that in August, Senior Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor, while addressing forum in Thiruvananthapuram had mocked PM Modi for wearing a headgear of N-E, but denying to wear skull-cap of Muslims.
He had said, “Why does our Prime Minister, who wears all sorts of outlandish headgear wherever he goes around the country, all over the world. why does he always refuse to wear a Muslim skull-cap? You've seen him in hilarious Naga headdresses with feathers and various kind of extraordinary outfits."
Targeting the Congress of indulging in family politics and corruption, PM Modi said that from Mizoram to Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to Rajasthan, the party in order to save the government is using the same formula everywhere. He was of the opinion that the Congress’ priority is to attain power, but does not care for the hopes and ambitions of the people.
Boasting about the development works, the Premier stated that the Union government is dedicated to the development of the North-East region. Elaborating on the focus of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said that connectivity, highways, railways, airways, waterways and I-ways are among the listed priorities. Setting up the agenda for development, PM Modi said that BJP is working on ‘Transformation through Transportation’ policy.
PM Modi said that the Congress government in Mizoram has delayed projects which slowed down the development in the state. He said, “Due to the Congress government in Mizoram, people aren't able to benefit from it. In fact, the Congress government doesn't bother about Mizoram.”
Adding More he said, “The work culture of the Congress has caused many projects to be delayed, leading to crumbling infrastructure in the state. However, the neighbouring states have excellent roads.”
The Premier stated that under the BJP-led Union government the works of railways has grown three times in the NE region. Taking on the Congress, he said that the road construction work, under PWD, has not been done since years.
The Assembly Elections in Mizoram for 40 seats will take place on November 28 and the results will be announced on December 11, along with the fate of four other districts. Altogether 209 candidates are contesting in this elections, which is 67 higher than 2013.
