Aizawl, October 6: The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the dates for Mizoram Assembly Elections 2018. The voting for Mizoram polls will take place in a single phase on November 28, while counting of votes will take place on December 11, when results will be announced.

The term of the Mizoram Assembly will end on December 15, 2018. The BJP has decided to go alone in the state currently ruled by the Congress. While opinion polls have indicated a contest between the Congress and the Mizo National Front, they have said that the BJP is likely to make a dent in the Congress vote share in the northeastern state. The incumbency factor in Mizoram is against the Congress, as the party has been ruling the northeastern state since the past 10 years. In the 2008 assembly elections, the party had emerged victorious winning a majority of 32 seats. In 2013, Congress further improved its position by securing victory in 34 constituencies. Along with Mizoram, assembly elections will simultaneously be conducted in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. The BJP is the incumbent ruling party in three of these states.
