Shillong, May 23: The results of Lok Sabha elections 2019 held in Meghalaya and other states and union territories in seven phases will be declared today. The counting of votes will begin at 8 am. The main electoral contest is between Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), United Democratic Party (UDP), National People's Party (NPP) and others. Meghalaya consists of two Lok Sabha seats - Shillong and Tura. Elections for both Lok Sabha seats in the state was held in the first phase of polling on April 11. The total polling percentage recorded in Meghalaya Till 5 pm on Thursday was 62%. Voting was held across 1,114 polling booths spread across Shillong and Tura constituencies. Fate of total 4 candidates from BJP and Congress was locked in EVMs in the state.
BJP has nominated Shri Sanbor Shullai, while the Indian National Congress fielded Vincent H Pala from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, while from Tura Lok Sabha seat Indian National Congress nominated Dr Mukul M Sangma while BJP has fielded Shri Rikman G Momim.
In Lok Sabha elections held in 2014, Congress candidate Vincent Pala won on Shillong Lok Sabha seat while the National People's Party (NPP) candidate Purno Agitok Sangma won on the Tura seat.
