Lucknow, May 23: The results of the Meerut Lok Sabha Constituency will be declared today. The counting of votes began on the Parliamentary seat in Uttar Pradesh at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. Voting took place for the Meerut seat in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 11. A total voter turnout of 64 per cent was recorded in this phase of polling in UP, as per Election Commission of India. Meerut constituency is one of the eighty Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is an ancient city, with settlements dating back to the Indus Valley civilisation having been found in and around the area. The parties declared their candidates from the seat and the independent candidates have filed affidavit too. The Congress has declared Harendra Agarwal as its candidate. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has given ticket to Rajendra Agrawal, the sitting MP from the seat. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Rajendra Agarwal of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the seat with 5,32,981 votes. Mohammed Shahid Akhlaq of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) came at the second place with over 3 lakh votes. Shahid Manzoor the Samajwadi Party (SP) came third with over 2 lakh votes.

Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will take place across the country between April 11 and May 23. While voting will take place in seven phases between April 11 and May 19, the General Election results will be announced on May 23.
