Manohar Parrikar Dies at 63; Union Cabinet to Hold Condolence Meet For Late Goa CM at 11 AM Tomorrow

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar died on Sunday, breathing his last at his residence in Goa. The former defence minister of India, Parrikar, 63, was suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer.

New Delhi, March 17: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar died on Sunday, breathing his last at his residence in Goa. The former defence minister of India, Parrikar, 63, was suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer. A condolence meet will be held in the Union Cabinet at 11 am on Monday. The news of Parrikar's death was announced by President of India Ram Nath Kovind this evening. "Extremely sorry to hear of the passing of Shri Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa, after an illness borne with fortitude and dignity. An epitome of integrity and dedication in public life, his service to the people of Goa and of India will not be forgotten," he wrote. Goa CM Manohar Parrikar, Suffering from Pancreatic Cancer, Dies Aged 63.

Parrikar had been suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer for over a year now. In June 2018, he had visited the United States for treatment. Over the past few months, Parrikar was seen fulfilling his duties as the Goa Chief Minister with a pipe connected in his nose. A few days ago, he was also admitted to AIIMS in Delhi for treatment.

On Saturday evening, Goa Assembly Deputy Speaker and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA announced that Parrikar's condition had deteriorated and that the doctors treating him were not hopeful.
