Mangaluru, October 31: With the last day for filing the nomination papers for Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council ended on Thursday, reports arrived that as many as 236 candidates filed their nomination papers for 60 wards. The MCC council elections for 60 wards would take place on November 12, and the counting of votes would take place on November 14.
According to a report, published in the Times of India, for the MCC council elections for 60 wards in Mangaluru district, Bharatiya Janata Party had fielded 94 candidates, while 66 Congress candidates have submitted their nomination papers. Among other details that are pouring in are that several candidates have submitted multiple nominations, while some have submitted papers as dummy candidates. Also, JD(S) had fielded 14 nominations, SDPI had fielded 10 candidates, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) had filed eight candidates. Apart from this, 35 independent candidates have filed their nomination papers for 60 MCC seats.
