Kolkata, May 11: Facing flak from the opposition on "a tight slap of democracy" remark to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday that she never mentioned slapping PM Modi. Instead of revoking from her comment, she sparked another controversy by taking a jibe at BJP stalwart's '56-inch' chest.
Addressing an electoral rally in Basirhat, the Trinamool Congress chief said, "I didn't say that I will slap you (PM Modi) literally, I said I will give slap of democracy. Why would I slap you? If I slap you, my hand will break, then why should I? Your chest is 56 inch, how can I slap you? I don't want to slap or touch you." Narendra Modi Questions Mamata Banerjee’s Slap of Democracy Remark, Says ‘Your Slap a Blessing, but Can You Slap Extortionists’.
Earlier, hitting back at Banerjee's comment, the Premier had said that her slap will be a blessing to him but asked whether Banerjee had the guts to slap those who looted poor people in the name of chit funds. He had said, "I am told that Didi said that she wanted to slap Modi. Mamata didi I address you as Didi, so if you slap me it will become a blessing for me and am ready to accept it."
PM Modi even said, while addressing a rally in Purulia, "But I will also say, had you shown the courage to slap those friends who looted poor people in the name of chit funds, you wouldn't be so scared." Adding more, he said, "Also, had you shown the strength to slap the 'Tolabaaz' (extortionists), then the stain of Triple T (Trinamool Tolabaazi Tax) wouldn't have spoiled your name." Mamata Banerjee Responds to Narendra Modi's 'Didn’t Return Calls' Jibe, Says She Avoided Sharing Dais With 'Expiry PM'.
It to be known that Banerjee, while addressing a rally in West Midnapore district and also in Purulia on Wednesday, Banerjee said that she felt like giving "one tight slap of democracy" to Modi when he accused her party - Trinamool Congress - of being extortionists. She had even said him a liar and accused him of setting a bad example for the country's children.
