Malappuram Lok Sabha Constituency in Kerala Results 2019: IUML Candidate PK Kunhalikutty Elected MP
Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency is one among the 20 parliamentary constituencies in the Indian state of Kerala.
The results of the Malappuram Lok Sabha Constituency has been declared. Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) candidate PK Kunhalikutty won the Parliamentary seat with 5,89,873 votes. He won with a margin of 2,60,153 votes. Other candidates in fray in the Malappuram included Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Unnikrishnan Master, Communist Party Of India (CPIM) candidate VP Sanu and Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) Praveen Kumar. Voting took place for the Malappuram seat during the third phase. According to the Election Commission, a total voter turnout of 75.41 per cent was recorded in the constituency. Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency is one among the 20 parliamentary constituencies in the Indian state of Kerala. Manjeri constituency was dissolved, merged and renamed as Malappuram constituency in 2008. It used to be the headquarters of the British and European troops. Malappuram has a Muslim majority of 70 percent. Malappuram Lok Sabha Constituency number is 6. Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency comprises of seven assembly segments including Kondotty, Manjeri, Perinthalmanna, Mankada, Malappuram, Vengara and Vallikkunnu.
Congress' ally UML fielded its national general secretary and sitting MP, PK Kunhalikutty from Malappuram. Kunhalikutty was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1982 from Malappuram. In 2017, he had resigned to represent the Lok Sabha constituency. He had won the Malappuram by poll elections in April 2017 by defeating MB Faisal of the CPI(M) by a huge majority. E Ahamed who had served as the Minister of State for External Affairs won both 2009 and 2014 elections. He passed away in February 2017. In 2014 elections, PK Sainaba of the CPI(M) and N Sreeprakash of BJP had lost to E Ahamed by a significant margin. National President of the SFI, 30-year-old VP is the youngest among the Left candidates.

The Lok Sabha elections 2019 was held between April 11 and May 19 in seven phases. In Kerala, voting was held in a single phase. During the third phase, the polling was held in 115 Lok Sabha constituencies of 14 states. The counting of votes was held on May 23 and thereafter the results were declared.
