Ranchi, December 18: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) sitting MLA from Maheshpur assembly seat in Jharkhand was elected again as a legislator. Stephen Marandi defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mistry Soren by a margin of over 30000 votes. Suphal Marandi of the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) candidate Shivdhan Hembrom were also in the fray. Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2019 Dates And Full Schedule Announced by Election Commission: Polling in 5 Phases.

The JMM has support from the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for the Jharkhand assembly elections as the three parties are contesting in an alliance. Of 81 seats, the JMM is contesting 43 while the Congress fights 31. The JMM won 19 seats and the Congress 7. The Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) could win in eight constituencies. However, six of their MLAs joined the BJP in 2015. Polling for 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand is being held in five phases. The voting for the fourth phase concluded for 15 assembly seats in the state on December 16.
