Over a month after NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena allied together in Maharashtra to keep BJP away, the three parties today witnessed victories in Zilla Parishad elections despite contesting separately. The Congress hauled 30 seats in Nagpur, the headquarters of RSS. While BJP Managed just 15 seats in Nagpur.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi has won in Palghar and it is yet another setback for the BJP after losing Nagpur, which is home to the RSS headquarters. The Maha Vikas Aghadi did well in Palghar thanks to the Shiv Sena and NCP, which won 18 seats and 14 seats respectively. The BJP could win only 12, the same as the independent candidates.
While the Congress and BJP looks set to win Nagpur and Dhule respectively, the only consolation for Shiv Sena seems to be Palghar, where the party is leading on 18 seats.
The Congress is set to wrest BJP bastion Nagpur, which houses the headquarters of the saffron party's ideological parent, the RSS. On the other hand, tight contest is underway in Nandurbar between the Congress and BJP.
BJP is leading in Dhule by a large margin. As of 2.30 pm, the Bharatiya Janata Party was leading on 31 seats out of the 56 seats for which polls took place on Tuesday. Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena are trailing behind BJP and are yet to cross double figures mark in Dhule.

Nashik, January 8: The results for the Zilla Parishad Elections in Palghar, Nagpur, Dhule, Nandurbar, Akola and Vashim districts will be announced today, on Wednesday. The voting in all the six Zilla Parishad took place yesterday, on Tuesday. The counting of votes began from 10 am today, on Wednesday. A number of veterans are in the fray in the Zilla Parishad elections whose electoral destiny will be decided today.
The polling took place on 59 seats of Zilla Parishad (ZP) and 116 seats of 13 Panchayat Samitis (PS) in the district on Tuesday. On Monday, the election material was distributed to the polling staff. The counting of votes and declaration of results is scheduled on January 8 (Wednesday). In all, 270 candidates are contesting for 58 ZP seats, and 497 are in the fray for 116 PS wards in 13 tehsils.
A total of 14,19,708 exercised their franchise on Tuesday. These voters included 7,36,643 male voters and 6,83,054 female voters and 11 others. Among the 13 tehsils, Hingna has the highest number of ZP circles -- seven -- and the highest number of PS segments -- 14. In the tehsil, total 1,60,781 voters will exercised their franchise. Nagpur (Rural) tehsil has second-highest number of ZP circles -- six -- and PS segments -- 12. However, the number of voters is the highest among all 13 tehsils -- 1,98,885. Bhiwapur has only two ZP circles and four PS segments, the lowest among tehsils in district.
