Maharashtra Political Turmoil: Twitter War Between Pawars Leaves Voters Confused; Ajit Firm on NCP Supporting BJP, Sharad Pawar Calls it 'Misleading'

Moments after rebel Ajit Pawar had tweeted to imply that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is supporting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar termed his nephew’s statement as “misleading”. The NCP chief clarified that there is no question of forming an alliance with the saffron party.

Mumbai, November 24: Moments after Ajit Pawar tweeted to imply that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is supporting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar termed his nephew’s statement as “misleading”. The NCP chief clarified that there is no question of forming an alliance with the saffron party. Sharad Pawar added that his party along with the Congress, would keep supporting Shiv Sena. Earlier in the day, Ajit Pawar tweeted to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his congratulatory message after the BJP has formed government in the state. In another tweet, the deputy CM of Maharashtra defended his decision of supporting the saffron party. Ajit assured the people of the state that the BJP-NCP alliance would form a stable government. Meanwhile, He also called the NCP chief his leader and said that he is still in the Sharad Pawar-led party.

Ajit Pawar tweeted, “I am in the NCP and shall always be in the NCP and @PawarSpeaks  Saheb is our leader. Our BJP-NCP alliance shall provide a stable Government in Maharashtra for the next five years which will work sincerely for the welfare of the State and its people.”

However, minutes after Ajit Pawar’s tweet, the Senior Pawar refuted his nephew’s claim of NCP supporting the BJP. He said that Ajit’s statement is false and misleading and the NCP has taken decision to form an ally with Congress and Shiv Sena. The NCP chief tweeted, “There is no question of forming an alliance with @BJP4Maharashtra. NCP has unanimously decided to ally with @ShivSena & @INCMaharashtra to form the government. Shri Ajit Pawar’s statement is false and misleading in order to create confusion and false perception among the people.”

The NCP currently claimed that it has a support of 50 MLAs while. NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said that his party is also in touch with the remaining four legislators. On the Contrary, Ajit Pawar seemed confident that the NCP is supporting the BJP.

In the recently concluded assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 105 seats, while its warring ally Shiv Sena bagged 56 seats. Both the parties contested the elections together. The political stalemate erupted in the state after the Shiv Sena broke all ties with the BJP as the latter rejected its demand for equal power-sharing. The Congress and the NCP bagged 44 and 54 seats respectively. As no party was able to stake claim to form the government, the President’s rule was imposed in the state. However, on Saturday, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the CM after Ajit Pawar along with some rebel NCP MLAs extended support to the BJP.
