Opposition has condemned the incident, with former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar calling for strict action against Rane for taking law into his own hands.
Notably, Rane is the son of former Maharashtra CM Narayan Rane. The latter, who had quit Congress in 2017 and joined the BJP, has now disassociated from the saffron camp.
The assault of government official by Rane Jr comes days after Akash Vijayvargiya, the son of BJP veteran Kailash Vijayvargiya, attacked an official of the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) using a cricket bat.
