Mumbai, October 19: Bollywood actor Salman Khan's long-time aide Gurmeet Singh alias Shera joined Shiv Sena on Friday. The new development comes just ahead of the Assembly Polls in Maharashtra which is slated to be held on October 21. Shiv Sena took to its official Twitter handle to make the formal announcement of Shera joining the party.

Shera, Salman's long-time bodyguard joined Shiv Sena in presence of party chief Uddhav Thackeray and Yuva Sena President, Aaditya Thackeray at their residence Matoshree in Mumbai. Aaditya, who is the first of his family to contest an election in the five decades since his grandfather Bal Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena, will contest from the Worli seat. In Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have formed an alliance for the upcoming elections. The 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly elections will go to polls on October 21 along with Haryana. The BJP will take on the Congress-led opposition to retain power in both the states during the single-phase assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. The counting of votes will be taken up on October 24. According to the EC, the State's assembly term expires on November 9.

According to an opinion poll conducted by ABP News in coordination with C Voter, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is predicted to win upto 194 seats in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections 2019. The survey further states that the Opposition coalition of Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is expected to be restricted to 86 constituencies.
