Mumbai, October 24: In what is likely to sour ties between the Hindutva allies, the Shiv Sena has called for a rejig in the coalition leadership after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fell short of attaining a simple majority on its own. The Sena has called for a "50-50 power sharing" formula, with a section of the party cadres demanding the division of chief ministerial post between Devendra Fadnavis and Aaditya Thackeray for half terms each. "We got the full mandate. Seats may increase or decrease in an election. We will talk to Uddhav ji, he will then speak with the Chief Minister. And what was agreed before the election, 50-50," senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said.

Raut, however, ruled out the speculations of ending the alliance with the BJP. He said the saffron camp will stay together irrespective of the possibilities of alternative governments arising in the assembly. "It will be a BJP-Shiv Sena government. There is no two opinion about it," he added.

Thackeray, who led the 4,000-km Jan Ashirwad Yatra across Maharashtra, had projected himself as the CM -- "common man" -- while addressing his supporters.

The party maintained a cryptic stand throughout the electioneering, claiming that the BJP and Sena are on same page of the alliance, but adding that the appointee for chief ministerial post would be decided after the polls. The BJP, on the other hand, had categorically stated that Fadnavis would continue as the Chief Minister if the coalition gets re-elected to power.
