Ahead of the 2014 polls, all four major parties - Shiv Sena, BJP, Congress and NCP - had contested without a pre-poll pact. However, the Congress and NCP have now agreed to seal an alliance ahead of the upcoming elections, with both parties deciding to contest on 125 seats each, while leaving 38 constituencies for the smaller allies. The Shiv Sena and BJP, who had also agreed to contest the polls in an alliance, are currently at loggerheads over the seat-sharing ratio. While Sena has sought an equal division of seats, BJP insiders have revealed that the party is not in favour of fielding candidates in less than 153 constituencies.
