Latur, November 24: At least nine people were arrested on Sunday after a clash took place allegedly between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) workers in Maharashtra’s Latur district. According to reports, a case was registered against 17 people. Maharashtra police have launched a manhunt operation to nab the remaining accused. However, the exact cause of the clash is still not known. The incident took place at a time of political stalemate in the state. On Saturday, the BJP formed the government with the help of rebel MLAs of the NCP including Ajit Pawar. Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the CM, while Ajit was sworn in as the Deputy CM of the state. The BJP claimed that it has the support of 27 NCP and Congress legislators. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Sunday while hearing joint writ petition filed by Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena directed the Maharashtra government, led by Fadnavis, to submit two letters; 1) Governor's letter inviting the BJP to form a government in Maharashtra 2) letter of support submitted by the state CM. The apex court will examine the two documents on Monday and then will pass an order regarding the floor test.
Earlier in the day, Ajit thanked PM Modi and other BJP leaders for their congratulatory messages. He also assured that he would work towards the welfare of the state. In one of his tweet, he claimed that the NCP and BJP would form a stable government in the state. However, NCP chief Sharad Pawar rejected his claims.
