Madhya Pradesh Nagar Palika, Parishad, Panchayat Election & Bypoll Results 2018: BJP, Congress Win 9 President Posts Each
MP rural and urban civic elections 2018: Results of 20 urban bodies, 90 sarpanch, 1,600 panch posts will be declared today. The winners in bypolls of various panchayat and janpad panchayat elections will also be declared. Stay tuned with the live updates below.
The full results of Madhya Pradesh Nagar Palika and Nagar Parishads are out. Out of the 20 urban local bodies which went into polls, the BJP and Congress won 9 president posts each. 1 president's post was bagged by an independent candidate. Counting of votes in one civic body - Semriya Nagar Parishad - did not begin due to technical reasons. Here is the results tally:

4:00 PM: As per the fresh updates released by the State Election Commission, the number of winning BJP councillors has reached 189, whereas, 144 councillors of Congress have emerged victorious.

03:00 PM: From Lalakheda Gram Panchayat in Ratlam district, candidate Sitabai has been elected the Sarpanch, local media reports said.
02:30 PM: In Balaghat district's Jam Gram Panchayat, candidate Anita declared winner for Sarpanch's seat.

01:50 PM: BJP, Congress run neck-to-neck as both sides equal the number of president post victories. 8 candidates from the both the parties have won the president's post of the urban local bodies, whereas, 1 independent has emerged victorious.
01:35 PM: Candidate Dhurpta elected Sarpanch in Ladsa Gram Panchayat of Balghat district.
01:15 PM: Congress's tally has moved up to 7 against the BJP's 8 urban body president post winners. In terms of counsellor, 66 Congress nominees have registered victory as compared to the BJP's 87.
12:55 PM: A total of 87 councillors of the BJP have emerged victorious, as compared to 51 of the Congress. Counting is still underway.
12:45 PM: BJP has clinched 8 President's post so far, whereas, the Congress has wrested 5. Counting is underway for the remainder.

9:30 AM: In Khadakwar Gram Panchayat of Betul district, candidate Santosh has been declared winner for the Sarpanch seat.
9:20 AM: Candidate Kamla Devi, who contested in Shahdol district's Barmania Gram Panchayat, won the seat with 665 votes, claims local media reports.
9:10 AM: In Rewa district's Taitra Gram Panchayat, Munnalal Kol has been elected for the Sarpanch seat, the SEC said.
9:05 AM: In Kupi Gram Panchayat of Chhatarpur district, Puran Lal has been declared winner for the Sarpanch seat.
9:00 AM: Kamalvati Kunjam, a candidate in Paundimal Gram Panchayat, gets elected for Sarpanch post. She emerged as the winner with 541 votes, the SEC was reported as saying.
8:40 AM: In Mayapur Gram Panchayat, Jitendra Pratap has been declared winner for the Sarpanch seat, polling 621 votes.

The Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission (MPSEC) will announce the results of Nagar Palika Parishads (municipal councils), Nagar Parishad (town councils), Janpad Panchayat and Panchayat elections today. The counting of votes begun at 8 AM. The polls were held on January 17, with 20 urban bodies - municipal councils and town councils - contested in the five districts of Dhar, Barwani, Khandwa, Guna and Anuppur. In rural local bodies, bypolls for 78 sarpanch, 17 janpad panchayat member posts were conducted, apart from general elections for 90 sarpanch and 1,600 panch posts. Out of the 20 urban bodies contested, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was the incumbent ruling party in 13 among them, whereas, the Congress had wrested control over 7.
District-wise details of elections conducted on Jan 17
Dhar: Pithampur, Dhar and Manawar Nagar Palika Parishads were contested, apart from the Nagar Parishads of Sardarpur, Rajgarh, Dharampuri, Dhamnod, Kukshi and Dahi.
Guna: Vijaypur-Raghogarh municipal council went to polls.
Barwani: Elections were held for Sendha and Barwani Nagar Palika Parishads, along with Pansemal, Khetia, Palsud, Anjad and Rajpur Nagar Parishads or the town councils.
Annapur: Jaithari Nagar Parishad was contested on Wednesday.
Khandwa: The town council of Omkareshwar went to polls.
Meanwhile, the elections and bypolls for the post of sarpanch and panch will be spread over 51 districts of the state.
According to pollsters, the election and bypoll outcome will emerge as a litmus test for the incumbent Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led government in the state, ahead of the assembly elections later this year. Both - the BJP and its prime opponent Congress - led a high octane campaign for the civic polls, with the Chief Minister himself participating in more than a dozen rallies of the ruling party.
