Madhya Pradesh Medical Negligence: 11 People Lose Eyesight as Surgery Goes Wrong at Indore Hospital

Bhopal, August 17: In a botched up eye-surgery, 11 patients lost their eye sight after undergoing operation for cataract at Indore Eye Hospital. Chief Medical Officer Dr Pravin Jadia said about the incident that the treatment of 11 patients who lost their eye-sight is underway. The hospital has also set up an inquiry into the incident, said the doctor.

Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Tulsi Silawat also took stock of the situaton. He said that the patients who have suffered due to the surgery will be given the "best treatment".
"I have ordered that the hospital's license should be cancelled. Patients will be provided a compensation of Rs 20,000," said the Minister.
An FIR will be registered against those responsible for the surgery gone wrong. Doctors found "guilty of negligence" will have to face departmental inquiry. "A seven-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter," informed the Minister.
