Bhopal, May 19: Voting for the final phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 ended in Madhya Pradesh at 6 pm. In Madhya Pradesh, which is one of the states going to polls today, a total of 8 parliamentary seats were being contested. The constituencies are: Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Indore, Khargone and Khandwa. A total of 69.38 percent voter turnout was recorded in the state. In these 8 Lok Sabha seats, the combined electorate size was over 1.49 crore. Out of them, 76,26,516 were male voters and 72,86,890 were female. 484 transgender persons had also been registered in the state's electoral rolls.

From MP, a total of 29 lawmakers are elected. While 8 among them would be elected by voters participating in the electoral exercise today, the fate of 21 others was sealed in the polling held in fourth, fifth and sixth phases of Lok Sabha elections 2019.
In 2014, the BJP had wrested 27 out of the 29 parliamentary constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. The party, however, faces a stringent challenge in this general elections as the Congress has shot back to prominence in the state.
In the assembly elections held five months ago, in December 2018, the Congress ended up ousting the 15-year-old BJP regime. Kamal Nath was elected as the new Chief Minister as the party ended up winning 114 seats in the 230-member assembly. The government is being supported by 1 SP, 2 BSP and 4 Independent MLAs.
