Madhya Pradesh Civic Elections & By-Polls 2017-18: Candidate & Constituency Details of Municipal Bodies and Panchayats

Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission (MPSEC) announced Elections and Bypolls for Urban Municipal Bodies (Nagar Palika Parishads and Nagar Parishads) and Rural Local Bodies (Panchayats) across the state in December 2017. According to the schedule, the date for receiving the nomination from candidates of all the constituencies going for the elections was December 27, 2017 to January 3, 2018. The polling is scheduled for January 17 while the counting of votes and results will be declared on January 20.

These are first major elections of the year 2018 to be held in India, more interestingly the state of Madhya Pradesh (MP) is getting prepped-up for the Assembly Elections to be held later in 2018. According to political pundits the assembly polls are going to be most critical contest for both the major political parties of India , the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and the challenger Congress as this is going to be the last major state election before the country goes for General Elections in 2019 to constitute the seventeenth Lok Sabha.

The Civic Elections in MP will see 19 Urban Municipal Bodies (Nagar Palika Parishads and Nagar Parishads) of 5 districts, and 51 Rural Local Bodies (Panchayats) will go to polls with By-Election to be held for various Nagar Parishads and Panchayats for few districts across the State.

Election Program, Schedule & Candidate Details of General/Bye Polls 2017-18 - Urban (Nagar Palika Parishads and Nagar Parishads)

Districts Going for Polls – 5 Districts (Dhar, Barwani, Khandwa, Guna and Anuppur)

Name of Municipal Councils (Nagar Palika Parishads) - Pithampur, Dhar and Manawar in Dhar district,  Sendhwa and Barwani in Barwani district,  and Vijaypur-Raghogarh in Guna district.

Name of Town Councils (Nagar Parishads) - Sardarpur, Rajgarh, Dharampuri, Dhamnod, Kukshi and Dahi in Dhar district, Pansemal, Khetia, Palsud, Anjad and Rajpur in Barwani district, Omkareshwar in Khandwa district and Jaithari in Anuppur district

Urban Local Body By-polls:  Semaria Nagar Parishad in Rewa district and few wards in municipal councils of Singrauli and Sarni of Betul district and Mandla, Sidhi, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Jhabua and Dhamoh district, two wards in Satna and three wards of Balaghat District. By-Elections are also announced for Nagar Parishad in Akoda of Bhind district, Karnawad of Dewas district and Khilchipur of Rajgarh district after respective council presidents were recalled under Section 47, Sub-section 2 of the MP Municipality Act 1961.

Election Program, Schedule & Candidate Details General/Bye Poll 2017-18 - Rural (Panchayat & Janpad Panchayats)

Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission (MPSEC) also announced elections for Rural Local Bodies to select & appoint vacant posts as of September 30, 2017.  Districts across the state will go for by-polls to elect Sarpanch, and Janpad Panchayat members. The general election for 90 Sarpanch and 1,600 Panch will also be held for the Rural Local Bodies of the state.
