Bhopal, July 19: As the assembly elections are approaching closer in Madhya Pradesh, the political atmosphere in the state is heating up. Speaking to reporters on Thursday Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan launched a fresh salvo at the Congress. Chouhan, slamming senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, said that he was a kind of person who would go to a terrorists’ house and would pay respect to terrorists killed by police. He also called the senior Congress leader a 'anti-national'.

Yesterday also the Madhya Pradesh chief minister attacked the Congress and Bahujan Samaj party while launching the second phase Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Maihar. He slammed the proposed grand alliance between the two opposition parties. Chouhan termed the Congress as an untrustworthy party and also said that he was not afraid of the grand alliance against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On July 18, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Kamal Nath also flagged off the Jan Jagaran Yatra from Tarana to counter Chouhan’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra that he started on July 14 from Ujjain. The Congress’ Jan Jagran Yatra is part of the Pol Khol Abhiyan. Nath termed the BJP’s Jan Ashirwad Yatra as the  the chief minister's farewell campaign.

The state assembly elections are scheduled for November this year. In 2013 elections, the BJP had won 165 out of 230 seats, while the Congress managed to win only 58 seats. The BSP won four seats.
