Ujjain, October 9: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, along with four other states - Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Mizoram, and Telangana. The voting for the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be in a single phase on November 17, 2023. Results of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2023 will be announced on December 3, 2023.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently in power in Madhya Pradesh, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the Chief Minister. The BJP has been ruling the state for the past 20 years and is currently facing strong opposition from the Congress. The Congress party is led by Kamal Nath, who served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh from 2018 to 2020. Congress' ship sank when nearly 22 MLAs, including senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, switched sides with BJP. Congress, under the leadership of Kamal Nath, made a comeback in the state nearly after 15 years by winning 114 seats, five more than the BJP. Despite falling short of securing a simple majority, Congress formed a government with the help of four independents, with Kamal Nath as the Chief Minister.

However, He resigned ahead of the Supreme Court-mandated floor test in the state assembly after the resignation of 22 rebel Congress MLAs was accepted by the speaker. Thus ending the 15-month tenure of Kamal Nath as Madhya Pradesh CM. In March 2020, the BJP came back to power in Madhya Pradesh after the Congress government collapsed. How The Political Landscape Looks Now:

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election 2023 is all about the BJP vs Congress. The BJP is seeking to maintain its hold on the state, while the Congress is striving to make a comeback. In recent times, Congress has managed to snatch Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh from BJP's hands and is hopeful of doing the same in Madhya Pradesh. BJP, on the other hand, is riding on the Modi Wave and the Hindutva approach. However, none of the parties, including the BJP, have named their CM candidates.

If the BJP wins the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election 2023, it would further strengthen its position as the dominant political force in the state, which would also replicate on the national politics. On the other hand, if the Congress party wins, it would be a significant setback for the BJP and could have implications for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The election process in Madhya Pradesh will begin with the issue of notification on October 13. The last date of nomination for the candidate will be on October 20. Their candidature will be scrutinised on October 21. According to the rules of the Election Commission, candidates can withdraw their candidature by October 23.
