Ludhiana, September 22: The Ludhiana Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections 2018 Results will be declared today, September 22. The counting of votes is set to begin at 8 am and the results are expected to be out by this evening. Voting for the Punjab rural body elections took place on Wednesday, September 19. A low voter turnout was recorded in the Ludhiana district as compared to the previous elections. The district recorded a 57 percent voter turnout as against 63 percent in 2013 and 70 percent in 2008. There were 68 candidates in fray for the Ludhiana Zila Parishad polls while 533 candidates for the Panchayat Samiti elections. Voting took place for 25 zones of Zila Parishads and 236 zones of Panchayat Samiti in the Ludhiana district.
Ludhiana had 11,61,000 eligible voters and 1542 Polling Stations all over the district. Voting took place through ballot papers and the counting is taking place today.
Meanwhile, counting is underway for Punjab Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections 2018 across 21 other districts including Amritsar and Jalandhar too. While voting was held on Wednesday, repolling was held at 28 booths across eight districts after stray incidents were reported on September 19.
The polling took place on 354 Zila Parishad seats and 2,900 panchayat seats. A total of 17,268 polling booths were set up, 35 observers appointed and around 50,000 police personnel deployed for the polls in Punjab. There are a total of 1,27,87,395 registered voters in Punjab, comprising 60,99,053 women and 97 third-gender voters.
