Mumbai, May 22: With just a day left for the declaration of results of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the opposition parties are keeping a close vigil on the storage rooms where the voting machines are kept in high security. Security has been beefed up in and around counting centres in all the states as counting of votes is set to begin at 8 AM on Thursday, May 23. In Uttar Pradesh, several Congress workers were seen sitting outside the EVM store rooms in Meerut and Raebareli. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who is contesting from Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal seat had visited voting machine store room at the central jail in the city last night with his wife. According to a report by NDTV, Congress workers were seen sitting outside strongrooms since Monday to ensure there was no movement of voting machines. Moreover, a 24-hour vigil on CCTV feed from cameras will monitor the strongrooms in several area.

On Tuesday, leaders of 22 Opposition parties had also submitted a memorandum before the Election Commission, requesting that the verification of VVPAT slips of randomly identified (05) polling stations should be done prior to counting of votes and not after the completion of last round of counting. The opposition parties also raised the demand of tallying VVPAT slips with EVM figures in an entire Assembly constituency in case a discrepancy is found in any polling booth. Several leaders of the opposition parties in Maharashtra had written to the election body chief in on Tuesday, demanding that the vigilance around the storage rooms be increased.
