Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4 Polling: BJD Alleges Booth Capturing by BJP in Jajpur, Writes to EC

Bhubaneswar, April 29: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday wrote to Chief Electoral Officer, Odisha over alleged "booth capturing by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)" in Jajpur parliamentary constituency during the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The letter states "BJP goons conducted booth capturing in 12 booths of Bari assembly constituency under Jajpur parliamentary constituency while the polling was going on today." The BJD has fielded Sarmistha Sethi, while Amiya Kanta Mallick is contesting from the BJP ticket.

Meanwhile on Sunday, a day ahead of the fourth phase of the general elections also, the BJD had written to Chief Electoral Officer, Bhubaneswar for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by the saffron party. The BJD alleged that the BJP is campaigning through voice call during the silent period. The fourth phase of elections is underway in six parliamentary seats including Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak in Odisha along with 43 assembly seats including Patruka assembly seat, where the polling was postponed from April 23 to April 29 due to the death of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agarwalla. In the first phase four constituencies went for the polls on April 11, while in the second phase on April 18, the polling was held in five constituencies. Meanwhile, six constituencies went for polling in the third phase on April 23. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
