Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Voting Held in Kolkata Uttar's Polling Station No.200 Declared Void by EC; Repolling on May 22

A day earlier, CPI(M) chief Sitaram Yechury had demanded CEC Sunil Arora to order re-polling in select-polling booths of Kolkata Uttar constituency.

New Delhi, May 21: The Election Commission has declared null and void the voting held in Kolkata Uttar parliamentary constituency on May 19, when the final phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019 were held. Repolling will be conducted at the polling station on May 22, from 7am to 6pm, said the statement issued by the polling body. BJP's Jadavpur Candidate Attacked Amid Poll Rigging Allegations.

The order to hold re-polling comes amid allegations of rigging and technical malfunction reported by political parties in West Bengal. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) had demanded the EC to take stern measure, alleging that the polls were rigged by members of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state.

CPI(M) chief Sitaram Yechury on Monday met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora and registered a complaint over the alleged rigging in Dum Dum, Diamond Harbour, Kolkata Uttar and Jadavpur seats. He was assured by the CEC of action by the polling officials into the discrepancies pointed out by him.

"Spoke to CEC Shri Sunil Arora ji, apprised him of the large scale attempts at rigging and violence in Dum Dum, Diamond Harbour, Kolkata Uttar, Jadavpur. He has assured us. We hope at this final stage of the poll, they can ensure that people are allowed to vote, freely and fairly," he had said.
