Mumbai, December 24: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has confirmed that the Congress and NCP will contest the 2019 polls together along with the Peasants and Workers Party of India. Pawar, talking to reporters about the seat sharing arrangement, said that talks have taken place on 40 seats and that only eight seats remain to be finalised. Pawar added that the final decision will be taken shortly and that if any confusion remains (over the seat sharing), then chiefs of both the parties will solve it.

Sharad Pawar had recently criticised the Narendra Modi government in Centre over the government's report to the Supreme Court in the Rafale deal and said that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had not studied the CAG report. Hailing the Congress for its victory in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar had said that Rahul Gandhi-led party has played an important role in giving an alternative to the BJP and others.

“There is happiness among all parties except the BJP. Congress has played an important role in giving an alternative to the BJP. Congress was receptive towards other smaller parties,” Pawar said, adding that the people have expressed displeasure over 4.5 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre.
