Patna, March 29: The opposition ‘Mahagathbandhan’ in Bihar on Friday announced its seat-sharing formula for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav announced that RJD will contest on 19 seats including Bhagalpur, Banka, Madhyapura, and Darbhanga. He said RLSP will contest on 5 seats, Congress will contest on 9 seats including Patna Saheb, HAM(S) on 3 seats, VIP on 3 seats and CPI(ML) on 1 seat. According to reports, former JD (U) President and NDA Convener Sharad Yadav will be contesting on an RJD symbol. RJD National Spokesman Manoj Jha and RJD State President Ram Chandra Purve informed that Yadav will then merge his party Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) with it after the Lok Sabha polls. The recent entrants to the grand alliance include Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) and Mukesh Sahni’s Vikasheel Insan Party (VIP). Both the parties will field their candidates on five and three seats respectively. Meanwhile, Former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM) has been given three seats. Bihar will go to polls in the first phase on April 11, for which filing of nominations will end on March 25. According to the NDA seat-sharing formula, the BJP and the JD(U) will contest 17 seats each in Bihar, while the remaining six would be fought by the LJP. The state will see polling in seven phases. The dates of polling in Bihar will be on April 11, 18, 23, 29 and May 6, 12 and 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had won only four seats while the Congress had won two. The JD-U, which contested separately, had bagged two seats in Bihar. The BJP-led NDA won 31 seats, with the former's tally being 22.
